Voice Over Interntet Protocol (VOIP) allows users to use their internet connection as a means of making cheap calls to local or international PSTN numbers. Public Switched Telecomunication Networks refer to your normal telephone networks that you are used to using.
VOIP allows users to carry calls over their internet connection before being terminated to the PSTN. VOIP has come a long way since its inception and may now be used to provide high quality calls at rates comparibly cheaper to that of the local telecommunication operators. VOIP is still deemed illegal in many countries around the world however many countries are adopting this form of communication. Coutnries such as the United States and the United Kingdom have long since adopted this technology which has resulted in cheaper telecommunication costs that have inevitibly been passed on to the masses.
You might ask yourself how VOIP might be able to reduce yourtelecommunication cost? As an increasing number of users around the world are adopting VOIP, cheap and sometimes free calling between family, friends and businesses around the world is now possible. Use your broadband connection as a telephone system and watch your monly telephone bills reduce tremendously.
Users of VOIP usually use either a Voip Softphone, which is a downloadable piece of software that allows users to make calls using their PC and a microphone , or but purchasing a Voip harware phone which usually just plusg directly into your broadband connection and does not require a PC.
